Make Money Online Writing Ebooks and Eguides
The Internet has opened up a huge global audience in which to promote your own information directly to consumers bypassing publishing organisations and maximising your potential online earnings.
Whether you have written a book, poems or can provide advice or guidance on any conceivable subject, you can self publish your work online. Self publishing is increasingly popular and is now very straight forward with the advent of dedicated online sites that will help you publish your work quickly and easily and provide you with a ready made audience of online customers. Whatever your level of experience our step by step guide to creating an ebook or eguide will help you understand some of the key principles to promoting your work and helping you to earn money from your efforts.
1. Quality Content
Take time to prepare some quality content on the subject that you wish to write about. Remember that online customers will only purchase your work if they believe it to be of benefit and a hastily written product will turn potential buyers off.
If you are writing an e-guide we suggest that you try to adopt a “How To” approach, ideally aimed at complete beginners. If you want to then build on this with further follow up e-guides for intermediate or advanced levels then great.
2. Formatting
Most internet sites that offer ebooks or eguides do so in a PDF format (Portable Document Format). This is a file type that is universally readable on a home personal computer and is flexible enough to include the addition of graphics and images to make it more usable. The great thing about PDF files is that they are a standard format and will open exactly the same way every time, so there’s no need to worry about problems with formatting.
PDF’s are easy to create with a piece of software which can be downloaded for free. Two a great free PDF creation software program is Primo PDF. This software is installed as a printer on your computer. You can write your content in a word processing package and then instead of sending it to your normal printer you just select the option to print to your PDF package and your PDF file is automatically created.
3. Marketing
There are two primary ways to market your ebook or eguide.
You can promote your material through an online store that is dedicated to providing self published material. Here’s a list of a number of possible sites;
This option means that you can upload your ebook or eguide as a PDF format, design a cover through the site and promote it to a ready made audience within a few minutes. However the drawback of this method is that the site will take a share of your revenue and unless you find a specialist site, you may find the quality of the customers are not as good.
Here is an example of a simple two page e-guide that we created through such a site, it is entitled “Your Guide To Online Safety”, just click on the title to view it. It took us literally 15 minutes to create an account and upload the eguide ready for sale.
The second way is to promote your e-book via your own website or blog.
There is an excellent site called Pay Pal, which allows visitors to your site to purchase a product or service you offer directly from your site.
Pay Pal allow you to create a simple shopping basket or buy it now button. This is a really simple piece of code that you can copy into your site just underneath the e-book or e-guide that you want to sell. It enables visitors to quickly and easily buy your product through a secure link provided by pay pal. Pay Pal take a small amount of the fee for providing this service, but this is usually less than any agency fee, if you were promote you material via an agency site.
Potential Monthly Earnings: This is difficult to assess for the simple reason that it depends upon how much you charge and how prolific a writer you are. Our advice is to set yourself some specific targets over the period of twelve months.
For example:
Target: To write 100, two page eguides within 12 months.
That means you need to write approximately 8 eguides a month. The average two page eguide may be around 2,000 words in length. So that’s 16,000 words a month, which is very achievable.
