Make Money Online From Blogging

Become An Online Blogger

Have you got a unique opinion or subject that you could share with a global audience? If so then you could make money online from blogging. A blog is simply a shortened version of a web log, which can be created by anyone but usually takes a personal perspective on a subject. Whether it is personal finances, pets, fashion, shoes, sport or any other subject you can possibly think of, you really can make money online from your opinions. You do not need to be a skilled writer to create a blog, although good English and grammar skills will clearly be hugely beneficial and make your blog more readable.

Here is our simple step by step guide to help you make money online from blogging.

1. Be Patient

It takes time to develop an interesting blog and you could be looking at up to 9 months work before you start to generate enough visitors to your blog to generate a regular income. If you are not prepared to wait this long then making money online from blogging is probably not the best option for you. Instead you should read our guide Earn Money Online with Revenue Sharing Sites.

2. Choose Your Topic.

Before you can start you need an idea for your blog, so spend some time brainstorming a range of ideas before deciding on your chosen subject.

3. Be Specific.

The more specific your blog, the more likely you are to develop a niche audience who will come back time and time again to read your blog. And that’s the key, repeat visitors, who will sign up for your blog posts and post comments on your blog. Also search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN like specific blogs because they are packed with highly relevant information. As a result your blog will receive higher listings in the search engine result pages, which are used by online surfers to find relevant information on the internet.

4. Choose A Blogging Provider And Host.

There are a number of organisations that provide you with free access to their blogging software so that you can create your own blog with no technical knowledge. The big players are Blogger.com,Typepad.com and Wordpress.com. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages and our advice is try all three to see which one works best for you. We strongly recommend blogger if you ar.com if you are new to blogging, as the site is highly user friendly and you can start your first blog in minutes.

5. Incentivise Your Blog.

Another reason why it is a good idea to create a blog with specific content is because of advertising purposes. For example if you create a blog which provides information or just your personal thoughts about everything related to shoes and you place adverts on your site related to shoes, then you are likely to get a higher click through rate, generating you a healthy income stream. In contrast, if you created a blog with a general theme like fashion, then it is harder to display adverts that are specifically tailored to your audience. Adsense and Text Link Ads are two excellent was to generate revenue from your site as they cleverly display adverts that are specifically tailored to your website, without you having to do anything! This saves so much time as you don’t have to actively find advertisers suitable for your audience as Adsense or Text Link ads will automatically do this for you.

6. Promote Your Blog

Technorati is the bloggers version of Google. It provides your blog with a rich source of visitors. Unlike search engines, like Google, Yahoo and MSN which display the most highly rated sites first, Technorati displays information in date order. Every time you create a new post on your blog, you can instruct Technorati to visit your blog (called pinging) and it will list it in its search results straight away. This means that if someone searches on apples, after you have pinged technorati, your blog post is likely to show up quite highly in its search results for the next hour or so. So the more often you write good quality blog posts and update you blog and then ping technorati the more chances that your content will be seen by an audience of hundreds of thousands.

7. Link Building.

Good content and link building are two of the most important aspects of creating a successful blog. You can create 100 well written and compelling blog posts but if you do not spend time creating links to your site from other blogs or websites, then your excellent content will not be easily viewable to an online audience. There are three main ways of building links to your site and these are article directories, postings comment on other blogs and link exchanges.

  • Article Directories

Article Directories are a great way to actively build links to your site quickly, although the quality of the links you build can vary. They work on this principle. You create an article about your site or about a subject related to your site and then post this on the article directory along with a recognised html link back to your site. Website owners and bloggers are constantly looking for quality articles to publish on their site and they will download your carefully written article from the article directory and publish it on their own site, along with the link to your site.

So how can this help increase links to your site?

Well it works on a multiplier effect. Say you post your article on 20 artle directories and say your article is downloaded by just five website owners or bloggers on each article directory looking for content for their site. This means that you get 100 links back to your site. You can see how this can increase further the more article directories you publish to. Over time search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN will start to view your site more highly as you build more links (some times called back links) to your site and you will start to receive more visitor traffic.

Here’s an example of a recognised html link to use in an article directory, just cut and paste it into the resources section in the article directory after you have written your article and change the website address to your own. You also need to delete the # symbols at the start and end for the link to work. We had to put the # in or this web page would not display how the code is written.

    < # a href="http://www.friendsandmoney.co.uk/">www.friendsandmoney.co.uk <# /a>

This is how the link will look after the # symbol is removed: www.friendsandmoney.co.uk. You can see that if you click on it it will take you to the main friendsandmoney home page.

  • Blogging

Another great way to boost links and visitor traffic to your site is through posting comments on other blogs. Just go to a search engine like Google, MSN or Yahoo and type in blogs followed by a term that describes your specific blog like "Personal Finance", "Shoes" "Gardening". This will then find blogs that are similar to yuor own. You can then just start posting some comments on their blog posts, but please be responsible and do not spam, it's almost best to write genuine comments rather than "Great Post." Most blogs have the option of including a link back to your site, so just type your blog address here.

  • Link Exchanges

These sites help you find like minded bloggers and website owners who are looking to exchange links to help build their presence on the net. You simply register with a link exchange site and then you can access thousands of sites that are looking to exchange links. Just send them an email requesting a link exchange and if they agree to your request, you add their website address to your blog and they do the same to their site. Try to trade links with sites that have a similar content to your own rather than every possible site as search engines will rate your site more highly if you have a number of links from those with similar content.

    Potential Monthly Income From Blogging

Creating a successful blog takes time, effort and creativity. However it is entirely possible and you do not need to have any technical experience to get started. Research shows that most blogs fail because blog authors fail to see it as a long term project. Our experience is that if you can make it past the first year without giving up you can start earning a steady monthly income stream. Here’s our assessment

    Estimated Earnings: (guideline only)

  • 0-12 months - Probably £0
  • 12 -18 months - £40-50 per month
  • 18 months plus £100 – 350 per month

I can list hundreds of blogs that easily generate £300 plus per month from advertising revenue linked to their blogs. We would strongly suggest that you should aim to target 100 well written blog posts, plus some excellent link building, before you start to generate sufficient visitor traffic to generate some substantial income, listed above.
